Mosaico – The history of Brazil

CD Info

The history of Brazil through music, this is Mosaico, a truthful portrait of Brazilian popular culture and rhythmical diversity. A mosaic of Brazilian soul. Thus was born Mosaico, the album of acclaimed partnership between the composer, singer and guitarist Toquinho and Rio de Janeiro native composer and poet Paulo César Pinheiro, released in 2005.

In 2000, to celebrate 500 years of Brazil, the journalist and comedian Millôr Fernandes wrote the screenplay of “Brazil! The Other 500 years”, a musical pop opera. This play’s musical production team invited Toquinho to compose the songs and in turn, he invited Paulo César Pinheiro to form a songwriting partnership. The musical arrangements for the play were made by Wagner Tiso.

The result of this partnership was an atemporal and historic musical album. In few weeks they created beautiful melodies wrapped brightly around incredibly skilful lyrics and embellished by talented arrangements. There are Indian songs, fado, maracatu, baião, samba-reggae, ijexá and sambas, showing the musical and cultural immense multiplicity of Brazil.

The play was debuted at Municipal Theatre of São Paulo and was showing for few days due to production reasons. However those beautifully composed songs couldn’t be kept in the closet forever. Considering it, Toquinho and Paulo César Pinheiro decided to compose more four songs, besides the eight songs created for the original soundtrack of the musical play, thus creating an album featuring 12 tracks.

Through this first time ever partnership, which flourished thanks to Millôr’s musical play,
Toquinho and Paulo César noticed that they had created a wonderful disc, which tells the
history of Brazil through music. The album Mosaico was released by Circuito Musical, a Music Producer, Publisher and Recording Agency. It is quite impossible to hear any track of the disc, including the 5th track (below) from the homonym album, without associating it with the Tupiniquim native country, in any place of the world or in any time. Mosaico is Brazil itself. It is worth it to hear the album!
